Prospective applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the John W. Washington Leadership Scholarship. The Garland Area Alliance of Black School Educators will award a $500 scholarship in the honor of retired Assistant Superintendent for Student Services and Community Relations, John W. Washington.
Applicants must be enrolled in a Garland Independent School District high school, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), and entering college or a vocational prep program in the fall of 2024. Prospective applicants should demonstrate leadership qualities that set them apart from their peers. This leadership service could stem from scholastic experiences, community relationships, church involvement, or a combination of all three. As an organization, we stand for the advancement of College and Career Readiness, however, leadership and service are valued with equal importance.
Applicants must apply by 11:59 pm on March 17, 2024. Applications received after that date and time will not be considered for the John W. Washington Leadership Scholarship. If chosen, applicants will be notified via email and honored at their campus senior awards day event.
Best of Luck,
Garland Area Alliance of Black School Educators' Scholarship Committee
